Long ago I recognized that how I grew up - and the many gifts of opportunity that my my parents made available to my sister and I - run deep within me and are central to the educator I have become. My educational philosophy is both a compliment to that magical childhood and a reaction to the traditional and rigid schooling I experienced in Italy, in elementary and middle school. I hope I am becoming the teacher I never really had. Thank you, and carry on!Provocations for Early Childhood Educationhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00537399140080823772noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5167395594606429460.post-15862604231986492202013-05-24T17:00:23.230-07:002013-05-24T17:00:23.230-07:00Mia, this is a wonderful tribute to a caring and l...Mia, this is a wonderful tribute to a caring and loving parent. It is also a testament to the lasting significance and education gained from childhood play, as well as to the provision of space and materials for such. As an advocate for play-based learning, and ECE quality and policy improvement, I believe that my positive childhood experiences, like yours, have provided the incentive to advocate for play-based learning, just as much as my years of study in Early Childhood Development and Education have. We know that all children cannot grow up in beautiful open spaces like the one you describe. But when parents and educators are passionately motivated to “envision, create, and enhance spaces” for children, the wonders of nature and connections to adults and other children and optimal learning can be there for all.
Play on, indeed!
Jean Kurnik
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02760341150389251491noreply@blogger.com
