On the child

"Our image of the child is rich in potential, strong, powerful, competent and, most of all, connected to adults and other children." [loris malaguzzi]

THE PROVOCATIONS PHILOSOPHY

At Provocations, we believe in and honor the power of curiosity, creativity, discovery and ingenuity inherent in all children. We strive to re-ignite and foster the same spirit in the adults who work with and care for children.

We believe all children deserve to exist and grow in a nurturing and stimulating environment rich in possibilities and supported by caring and engaged adults. We see children as thinkers, planners and contributors. We subscribe to the idea that all children have the right of to learn through playful inquiry.

We trust that children whose innate sense of wonder and whose knowledge of the world are recognized, valued and built upon will deepen and help nurture their healthy minds, bodies and spirits. Children who are supported in this manner will develop habits and competencies that will serve and nourish them throughout their lives as life-long learners, and furnish them with the tools and drive to become the innovators and change-makers of tomorrow!

We believe in protecting our planet and the environment by creating spaces for learning where "re-use, reduce, recycle, re-purpose and re-create" are the norm and not just buzz words! We strive to outfit the indoor and outdoor spaces we help create with reclaimed materials and furnishings, and materials for play and discovery made from sustainable, scavenged, exchanged, donated materials and items purchased from charity organizations.

We honor the beauty and inspiration of our natural environment and seek to enrich the aesthetic sensibilities of early childhood educators and those of the children they work with by immersing them in nature, both indoors and out-of-doors.
